Join Nandi Valley Walks for a specially curated, guided heritage walking tour – through the architectural splendour of the 1200 year-old BHOGANANDISHWARA TEMPLE at the foothills of Nandi Hills.
Retracing vignettes of the “JOHN COMPANY”-walas: the forgotten histories of Major Gowdie and General William Medows; under the command of Charles, The Earl CORNWALLIS.
Walk around the former battleground of the “SIEGE OF NUNDYDROOG” in 1791 between TIPU SULTAN and the British.
Traverse the village of Sultanpet taking in a snippet or two about the Sultan
Before gazing poignantly at the abandoned BRITISH CEMETERY just outside the village gates.
WALK / TOUR DETAILS:
8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. – Breakfast (OPTIONAL) at the cozy home stay of Praveen & Meera Khanna, SILVER OAK FARM
9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Walking Tour; a leisurely stroll, with ample stops along the way and some places to sit
Start from SILVER OAK FARM; around the BATTLEGROUND of the ‘Siege of Nundydroog’; visit TIPU’S MASJID
Then, through the village of SULTANPET; past the British CEMETERY; and, finally,to the Bhoganandishwara TEMPLE, where you will stroll through its precincts.
Total walking distance, about 2.5 kms.
12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Lunch (OPTIONAL) back at SILVER OAK FARM!
