Birju Maharaj Parampara
Birju Maharaj Parampara, a registered society dedicated to the spread of Kathak dance was founded in the year 2003, by Pandit Jai Kishan Maharaj (elder son of the legendary Kathak maestro, Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj), and his wife , Smt. Ruby Mishra. The Birju Maharaj Parampara was founded with the objective of imparting Kathak training in its purest form. The parampara follows the traditions of the Lucknow Gharana and imparts training to children as young as three, and adults as old as forty years in age. The parampara welcomes everyone who wishes to learn Kathak and nurtures them in the true Guru –Shishya Parampara. The institute is affiliated to Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh.
Training includes individual and collective tutorial facilities provided to the students covering a total span of 7 years. It involves various grades of examinations starting from the elementary to Advanced level. As a back-up to the studies, the training is sought to be supplemented through lecturers by the Visiting Faculty comprising of eminent individuals. These eminent artistes from disciplines of dance come handy to the students who, through interaction, attempt to understand those aspects of the subjects concerned which at times appear to be difficult to grasp. This is one facility of authentic guidance which is hardly available to the students in institutions imparting education in these disciplines in the country. We do not compose/choreograph Bollywood Movie Songs.
