5 RECIPES FOR EFFECTIVE WEIGHT LOSS WITH OATS

Oats are becoming extremely popular amongst dieters now-a-days. Besides providing numerous health benefits like lowering the bad cholesterol, reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, stabilizing blood sugar levels and providing protecting against various cancers, it is also helpful in weight loss. Being low in calories and high in fiber, it becomes an ideal food to reduce weight.

FRUITS OATS SMOOTHIE

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

  • 1 large banana, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped mangoes
  • 2 medium chikoos, chopped
  • 1/4 cup quaker oats
  • 2/3 cup milk, chilled
  • 4-5 ice cubes

Recipe:

  1. Peel the fruits and chop them finely.
  2. Add them in a blender along with milk and Quaker oats. Blend till smooth.
  3. Add ice cubes and serve.

BESAN OATS CHEELA

Serves: 2-3

Ingredients:

  • 50 gms besan
  • 70 gms Quaker oats
  • 1 small tomato, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp ajwain
  • 1/4 cup coriander, chopped
  • 1 green chilli, chopped
  • 1/2 inch ginger, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt as desired
  • Water as desired
  • Oil as desired

Recipe:

  1. Grind oats to a fine powder.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add Quaker oats, besan, onion, tomato, ajwain, coriander, green chilli, ginger, turmeric, red chilli powder and salt. 
  3. Pour water as desired and mix the batter.
  4. Whisk till the batter becomes smooth, without any lumps.
  5. Heat the tawa on a low flame. Spread a bit of oil and add a ladle full of the batter.
  6. Gently spread the batter and cook till the top begins to look cooked.
  7. Flip the cheela and cook the other side. Serve.

OATS IDLI

Serves: 15-16 Idlis

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup semolina
  • 1 cup Quaker oats
  • 1 teaspoon eno
  • 1/2 cup curd
  • 3 tsp coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • 1/2 tbsp oil
  • Salt as desired
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 pinch asafoetida
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1 green chilli, chopped
  • 1 tsp curry leaves, chopped

Recipe:

  1. Grind Quaker oats to a fine powder.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add chana dal, mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chilli and asafoetida. Saute for a minute.
  3. Add semolina and saute for 2 minutes.
  4. Add oats and stir continuously. Roast for 4-5 minutes.
  5. Let this mixture cool and add coriander leaves and carrot.
  6. Add curd, water and stir the mixture well. Allow it to sit for 5-6 minutes.
  7. Grease the idli moulds and heat the water.
  8. Add salt and eno to the batter.
  9. Pour the batter in the moulds and place them in the idli steamer/electric cooker/pressure cooker.
  10. Cover and steam for 10-12 minutes.
  11. Allow the idlis to stand for some time and serve.

OATS EGG OMELETTE

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 tbsp milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup Quaker oats
  • 1 pinch turmeric 
  • Salt as desired
  • 1/8 tsp pepper powder
  • 2 tbsp carrot, grated
  • 2 tbsp, onions
  • 2 tbsp tomato
  • 2 tbsp capsicum
  • Few coriander leaves
  • 2 green chillies

Recipe:

  1. Mix Quaker oats, turmeric, salt and pepper in a bowl. Add milk to it and make a batter.
  2. Add eggs and beat them till frothy.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and pour the egg mixture along with the vegetables. 
  4. When the omelette firms up, flip it to the other side and cook till done. Serve.

OVERNIGHT OATS

Serves: 1

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup quaker oats
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3/4 cup mix fruits, chopped

Recipe:

  1. Place Quaker oats in a jar. Add water, cover it and refrigerate overnight.
  2. In the morning add fruits and serve.
