Anyone can write a blog post, but only the fearless bloggers can be great!
A good idea or topic, decent spelling and grammar, and a strong mastery of the subject are enough for a good blog post. But if you want to capture your readers with a great blog post, or one that makes people go "Wow! I’ll share this on Facebook!” you have to go further than the essentials.
Here is your 5 point checklist to rock a perfect post:
1- Hook them with an awesome Title: Admittedly, this is the hardest part of writing a blog post. That’s because the title should be able to reel in the reader, and at the same time, give them an idea what your post will be all about. Make sure to capitalize the first letter of every word, have clear, descriptive titles work better than cute or punny ones and please NO all-caps!
2- Focus on the length of the post: You have to hold your readers’ attention from the beginning until the end of your post, so make sure that every word, phrase and sentence counts! An effective posts fall in the 500 to 1000 range – try to stick to it.
3- Use Simple, Yet Precise, Words: When you think your post says what you want to communicate, read it from your readers’ viewpoint and make sure it’s easy to understand. Stay away from the hefty jargons. Use short, reflecting and challenging phrases!
4- Add visual interest: Include an image with the post to make it more engaging or entertaining. Play around with different types of images to see what works for your post.
5- End with a punchy conclusion: You can either end with a thought-provoking question or a call-to-action; or restate your main point, and persuade your reader to care about your point.
Feel free to use these rules depending on what’s appropriate for your article. What matters is consistently writing posts that are engaging, attractive and unique enough to keep your readers coming back for more.
