“I haven’t gone to school in months. I want to play with my friends. If I get treatment on time, I can go to school again and study for class X. Please Daddy, Please Daddy, I pray you”
“Even if I want to fold my hands I beg you I feel pain in my hands due to swelling. Even my legs are swollen and I limp when walking”
“There is no money with mummy. If you think that she will take your money, then you take me to the hospital, and get me treated,”
“Admit me to the hospital and get me treatment Daddy”
“If you don’t love me atleast show some mercy Daddy”
These heart wrenching words belong to 13-year old Sai Sri from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh who was suffering from bone marrow cancer. She made a Whatsapp video message begging her father to pay for her cancer treatment. The video was recorded on a mobile phone by her mother Suma Sri. Unfortunately, Sai died three days after this video which has gone viral on social media since then.
Sai was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer in August 2016 and doctors in Hyderabad told her the only way she could survive was through bone marrow transplantation, which would cost around Rs 30 lakh.
Sai’s mother Suma says, “I had no money so I called Shiva Kumar (the father) who asked me to bring the child to him, saying he would get her proper treatment at Bengaluru. I left Sai Sri with him in February this year but he did not take her to any hospital. So, I brought her back to Vijayawada.
After the message went viral, Sri's father threw Sai and her mother out of the house. Unbelievably, he also allegedly sent goons with local MLA to settle the issue. The Police even refused to file complaint against the goons send by Shiv Kumar, as they were reportedly supported by the MLA
According to news agency ANI, when the mother tried to sell house which was under Sai Sri's name to meet medical expenses, but was stopped by Shiva Kumar and the MLA.
Taking note of the situation, that the father didn't spend the money even though he could afford it, the State Human Rights Commission has ordered the city Commissioner of Police to submit a detailed report on the incident.
However, according to a recent news report, there is a twist in the case with the father Sivakumar alleging that his daughter was murdered by his ex-wife Suma and her present husband Polina Krishna. He even claimed that their neighbours had heard her cries. He has lodged a complaint with evidence, at the Suryaraopet police station.
In the meantime, he has also announced that he is willing to donate his property to Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital in memory of his daughter.
