Once Upon A Time! Best Storytelling Workshops In Ahmedabad

From the stories conveyed through cave paintings in the ancient times, to the bedtime stories we tell our children, stories are all around us. Storytelling is not just reading words aloud but is a skill and has the potential to influence children immensely in shaping their beliefs and thoughts. We have identified some great story telling sessions in Ahmedabad which you can take your children to.

Story Hub


Age group: All ages, but mainly focuses on children from pre-primary and primary

Story Hub was started in May 2014 by Dipali Bhachech, a librarian for twenty-three years and a certified story-teller. While working as a librarian she developed an innate connection with children and the fact that books and stories contribute greatly towards shaping the minds of children. 

Dipali conducts storytelling workshops and sessions for many leading schools in Ahmedabad on a regular basis. She also conducts workshops with the bookstore chain Crossword and other NGOs. She chooses stories depending on the age of children and makes it interesting and absorbing with the apt use of music, mime, gestures and props.

Thought Canvas


Location: MSH 1606, IIM-A New Campus, Vastrapur, Ahmedabad

Age group: 6-17 years

The brainchild of Megha Agarawal, an alumni of IIT Mumbai, ‘Thought Canvas’ was founded in 2014 to encourage and develop activities which helps to develop the right brain in the early years of childhood. 

It conducts 2-3 days workshops where in an open-ended activity, kids are encouraged to express their thoughts and come up with a story, their own characters and a logical ending. Then they write and illustrate it themselves under the supervision and able guidance of the mentors. In one batch not more than 20 children are taken. The fee for a workshop is INR 2500 which includes all costs. 

Megha also runs an online podcasting channel for children. The central fictitious character of the podcast “Phoolkumari” loves kids and brings to them wonderful stories, poems and plays in Hindi every 10-15 days.

The Warming Mug


Location: 14, The Grand Monarch, Besides Seema Hall, Satellite, Ahmedabad

Age group: 4-10 years

The Warming Mug is an activity centre which helps in all round development of children by its different exciting activities such as creativity workshops, science workshops and storytelling workshops.

Story telling workshops are held over the weekends and in various regular batches during the month at their centre. Nidhi Shah, a science graduate and B.Ed is the founder of The Warming Mug and conducts the sessions herself. She makes the session interactive, hands-on and exciting with the usage of various props and puppets. The workshop duration remains from 60-90 minutes and charges are around INR 100-150 per kid per session. She also conducts sessions at outside venues with minimum of 15-20 children.
