So true, and as parents it becomes our responsibility to expose our children to adventure and nature as much as we involve them in studies and extracurricular activities. But also true is the fact that natural surroundings is depleting in cities and one has to move away from its hustle bustle to appreciate nature. Adventure camps play an instrumental role in bringing children close to nature. The other benefits are also plenty.

Now it comes to finding one. We have identified adventure camps in and around Ahmedabad you could consider for your children this summer. Most of them are scheduled in May and June,and if you are looking for dates other than these, we suggest, keep checking with the organisers as they plan exciting adventure camps throughout the year at different places.

Undulate in Wilderness

Location: Forest of Aravalis, around 178 kms from Ahmedabad

Dates: April 30th - May 1st 2016, 10 am – 10 pm

Age group:  12 years and above

Charges: INR 2650

Organised by Diving Deep, this is a two day camping and trekking expedition in the deep forests of Aravalli, which has great ecological significance and one of the highest mountain ranges in Gujarat region. The expedition will include visiting and experiencing Jessore Peak, which is a wildlife sanctuary mainly for conservation of Sloth Bear. The campers will get to climb and trek over the rocks, streams and wooded terrains of Jessore. They will also get to connect with the local communities and get an understanding how they survive in the wild.

The participants need to carry their sleeping bag, hiking mat, trekking shoes, long sleeve shirts, sunglasses, cap, water bottles and a few dining utensils. Fees are inclusive of all expenses including to and fro.

Jambughoda Kids Camp

Location: Jambughoda, around 175 kms from Ahmedabad

Dates: Batch 1: May 1st – May 3rd 2016 (Below 10 years)

                Batch 2: May 3rd – May 5th 2016 (11-13 years)

Charges: INR 5000 (Batch 1), INR 5,500 (Batch 2)

An all-kids camp to a wildlife sanctuary three hours away from Ahmedabad seems like an ideal choice to explore. ‘Camp Wanderers’ have been organising successful kid’s camps for many years and this summer they have 2 camp batches at Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary. Situated among well forested hills, the sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife and many tribal settlements.

The kids after reaching will be briefed about the camp, followed by adventure activities and an acclimatization walk. The activities planned include bird watching, various team building games, evening trek in the forests, campfire in the night accompanied by recreational activities. The accommodation will be provided in tents which will add to their adventure.While returning they will visit another World Heritage Site ‘Champaner’ and share their experience.

Gypsies at Sasan Gir

Location: Sasan Gir, around 350 kms from Ahmedabad

Dates: May 6th – May 9th 2016

Age group:  8 years and above

Charges: INR 4500

This camp is the perfect opportunity for your young adventurer to roar with the lions at Sasan Gir, a wildlife sanctuary where Asiatic Lions can be found roaming freely in the wilderness. It is also home to various different species of animals, birds and reptiles.

Diving Deep has a well-planned three day itinerary which includes understanding the geography, ecology and significance of Gir, the jungle safari, hiking in mango farms, night gatherings, sessions on wildlife sightings, visit to the crocodile park, bird-watching, sightseeing, bathing in water-bodies and meeting/getting to know the local tribe known as Maldharis.

The cost is all inclusive of all meals, stay, guide fees and transportation from Ahmedabad and back. The camera fees have to be borne by the participants.

Young Naturalists


Location: Sundarvan, S.M.Road, Jodhpur Tekra, Ahmedabad

Age Group: 8 – 12 years

Camping among nature and within the confines of one’s city makes this a unique experience which combines fun and adventure. Sundarvan, a nature discovery centre and mini-zoo has organised this innovative camp at its premises which is situated in the heart of the city.

The first two days the kids need to come to Sundarvan from 8 am to 12 noon. They will be made aware about the reptiles and mammals housed there, learn about the flora and trees surrounding them and will get to touch and feel the nests, eggs, feathers, skull of various birds and animals. The third day, kids need to report at 6 pm and will have a night stay at the premises in clean rooms with air coolers. Lots of exciting indoor and outdoor activities have been planned including art and craft. The next morning the kids will be seen off with great takeaways and certificates.

Only 20 kids will be taken in each batch.

Aravali – Kumbhalgarh Camp

Location: Kumbhalgarh, around 350 kms from Ahmedabad

Dates: June 9th – June 12th 2016

Age group:  11 to 22 years

Charges: INR 6,500 on four sharing basis, INR 7,000 on three sharing basis

Kumbhalgarh, the birthplace of Maharana Pratap is a World Heritage Site situated in Rajasthan. Surrounding the Kumbhalgarh fort is the Kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary which is home to large variety of wildlife including some highly endangered species. Kumbhalgarh’s historical importance and natural beauty makes it very popular among tourists and nature lovers.

The camp organised by ‘Anala Outdoors’ promises three days of fun and adventure. It includes trekking, zip line, double rope crossing, jungle safari, visit to Kumbhalgarh fort, light and sound show and enjoying Rajasthani folk dance. Accommodations will be in rooms or tents and separate for boys and girls.

The campers need to carry three pair of comfortable clothes, light woollen, raincoat, towel, sport shoes, slippers, water bag and other essentials in a rucksack which is easy to carry around. A special certificate will be issued to those who participate in all the activities and abide by the camp rules. All expenses are covered in the fees.
