Top Independence Day Events In Delhi-NCR

Just as every religious festival is a social celebration, so is our national festival. Step out with your family this Independence Day and join the celebrations at various venues across Delhi-NCR. Here’s our shortlist.

Native Tree Plantation Drive with Delhi I Love You and CEC Delhi

Locality: Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary

Date: 15th August 2015

Age Group: 5 and above

We start our list of activities with the best expression of freedom - being responsible and caring for our natural resources. Join the initiative of Delhi, I Love You together with CEC - Delhi to plant 1000 native trees from 22 native species of the Delhi Seed Bank Drive. The planting drive at Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary will be a celebration with live music, tea and refreshments, and a native sapling for each participant to take home.

The emphasis on planting native trees is because over time, Delhi has been overtaken by exotic trees like Vilayati Kikar while trees native to our city continue to disappear rapidly. Protecting and promoting the cultivation of indigenous species is critical - these are trees that have already adapted to Delhi's environment. They do not need any extra water or nutrients, and so don't drain our city's resources. Plantation drives like this one are a small step to conserve these native trees but we know that over time we can restore Delhi's ecosystem to its natural state.
