NCPA Summer Fiesta
Locality: National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Nariman Point
Date: May 1st to June 15th
Age group: 4 years to 18 years. Age range varies for each workshop.
One of the more popular festivals in this city, the NCPA Summer Fiesta is back for the 5th year to bring out the best in children during the vacations. This camp is all about the performing arts and includes a series of workshops, plays and films. Each event offers scope for learning in a manner that is informal and non competitive. The topics covered across the workshops include music, classical, western and contemporary dance, theatre – acting, improv, comedy and movement, puppetry, creative writing, arts and crafts, public speaking through a radio jockey workshop and magic based workshops, photography and animation. Theatre groups like Akvarious, Yatri and Gillo will present plays for the participants and their families. Check the detailed schedule and register early.
Summertime @ Prithvi
Locality: Prithvi Theatre, Juhu
Date: April 25th to June 7th
Age group: 6 years to 16 years. Age range varies for each workshop.
Summertime at Prithvi buzzes with excitement and creative energy. Participants have plenty of options to choose from ranging from creative storytelling and writing workshops to juggling, writing and performing, photography and filming, fun with clay and many more. The workshops are in English and / or English and Hindi and are conducted by some of the best talent this country has to offer like Makrand Deshpande, Sunil Shanbag, Faezeh Jalali, and Joy Fernandes to name a few. Also keep a look out for the plays for children that will be a part of the summer time fun. Registration opens from 12th April by a token system.
The Writer’s Bug Summer Blast

Date: 27th April to 1st May at Head Start and 4th May to 29th May at Bright Sparks
Age group: 6 years to 12 years
The Writer’s Bug creative camps are popular with children across the city. They offer young creative minds hours of interaction with experts in varied fields. This year’s camp features workshops on illustration, radio jockeying, Manga art (Pokemon series), a fun financial literacy program, fantasy art, movie review writing, film making, and creative writing. Some of the facilitators are Jai Ranjit, Tanvi Choudhary, Nilum Jijodia, Rima Medhi, and Isha Pungalia to name a few.
Friday Fun at the Museum
Locality: Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum
Date: Every Friday in May; 11am to 1.30pm and 2.30pm to 5pm
Age group: Open to all ages and parents are welcome to participate
The education department at the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum has been busy putting together an exciting schedule for the summer. In Friday Fun workshops, every Friday in May will feature two interesting workshops based on conservation, puppetry, pottery, games, map a zoo, build a diorama or ‘museum of me’. Week 1 features Mapping Stories and Curious Objects, week 2 has Mumbai in Puppets and Pottery for Beginners, week 3 is Byculla for Kids and Art with Natural Materials, week 4 features Museum of Me and Mumbai by the Sea, and week 5 has Conservation 101 and Make your own Diorama. You can participate in one or all but prior registration is a must as there are limited seats.

Age group: 6+ years with varied age groups for each workshop
Summer Fun at the Museum this year is all about Fun ‘n’ Focus with the theme being photography. The entire family can be a part of the workshops. There’s a Fort Photo Walk, Make Your Own Pin-hole Camera, Pop Art Pics, Creative Eye and A Pic that Speaks a 1000 Words. Prior registration is a must and participants need to bring along their cameras, tablets or camera phones along with a laptop connecting cord.
Mcubed summer events
Locality: Mcubed Library, Bandra
Date: 25th April to 31st May
Age group: Open to all ages with some workshops suited to varied age groups
Mcubed Library is a super place to have your child spend many hours. In addition to enjoying the books, all through summer you and your child can head over to participate in the workshops and events. The children’s program features yoga, creative writing, craft in 3D, science, movie screenings, Warli painting, martial arts, best out of waste craft activity and more. Speechworkz summer courses
Locality: Bandra and Borivali
Date: April 15th to 30th and May 1st to 15th
Age group: School and college going children
Communication skills enhancement is what Speechworkz is all about. The company driven by Dale Edwards is devoted to developing and honing the spoken and written word. The course draws on a diverse set of syllabi and uses a combination of Assessment Criteria prescribed by Trinity College London. The syllabus includes speech communication arts, drama and speech subjects, public speaking and communication skills. The three short summer courses that comprise 12 sessions are Speech Writing 101; Communication Skills 101; and Voice, Poise and Delivery 101.
Art and animation
Art of Animation
Locality: Toon Club, Bandra
Date: 13th to 25th April and 4th May to 16th May; 11am to 12.30pm and 2.30pm to 4pm
Age group: 7 years to 14 years.
Toon Club has recently been awarded the ‘ABAi Make a Difference Award 2015’ for their contribution in spreading social messages using animation as a tool. The organisation is dedicated to teaching children the art of animation. At their art and animation summer camp, the sessions will cover history and definition of animation; optical devices; principles of animation; simple laws of physics; techniques of animation; and how to create an original cartoon movie.

Date: 27th April to 29th May; 10am to 11.30am
Age group: 7 years to 14 years
Colour Crates presents five weeks of fun in camp creatives. From Monday to Friday for the summer, children can indulge in art, craft, games and more with each week having a theme. Week 1 is dedicated to Back in Time; week 2 is Time to Luau; week 3 is all about the Wild Wild West; week 4 is Work like a captain, play like a pirate; and week 5 will have them Going to sea.
Scribble Art Studio summer art and craft workshop
Locality: Ghatkopar (E)
Date: 4th to 16th May; Group A - 10am to 11.15am and Group B 11.15am to 12.30pm
Age group: Group A: Sr KG to 4th Std and Group B: 5th Std to 8th std
This summer art and craft workshop is for those who want to get really creative with colour and all things craft. Group A participants will be taught how to make a caterpillar, paper plate crown, decorative pen stand, kite paper craft, paper bag decoration, magic painting, dangling craft, fanfold flower and ear bud painting while Group B children will learn Aboriginal art, hanging craft, photo frame, 3D hand, batik hanky, marble painting pot and lots more.
Vivekanand Sports Academy summer camp
Locality: Swami Vivekanand School and Junior College, Chembur
Date: 15th April to 14th May
Age group: School children
The summer sports camp organised by the Vivekanand Sports Academy is looked forward to by children interested in the varied intensive coaching on offer. The list includes cricket, badminton basic and advanced, football, martial arts, kabaddi, athletics and fitness, skating, gymnastics and fun games, table tennis, chess, yoga and volley ball. Additionally the camp also offers drawing, arts and crafts as well as Bollywood / western dance fitness aerobic workout sessions, Indian classical dance – Kathak, and vocal singing classes to include Bollywood, Bhajan and English songs. There is the option of availing a transport facility. All participants will receive a participation certificate at the end of the course.
Somaiya Vidya Vihar’s Sports summer camp
Date: 20th April to 5th May
Age group: 7+ years
The folks at Somaiya want Mumbai kids and parents to enrol on a 15 day sports camp that is sure to get all participants physically fit. There are different fitness coaches for the different sports. On offer are squash, football, taekwondo, athletics, and badminton. Participants will be required to bring in their own sports equipment for the sessions and may enrol for any one batch.
One World International Sports Club vacation classes
Locality: Garodia School, Ghatkopar
Date: 4th May to 16th May, 8am to 9.30am
Age group: School students
Ensure your child gets a daily dose of fitness into his or her holiday routine by enrolling for the vacation batches conducted by the experts at One World International Sports Club. The 12 day sports intensive training will help your child hone into sporting skills. Choose from tennis, gymnastics, athletics, football, skating and basketball. The vacation club also offers chess training. Register before 25th April.
