So, get away from the grit of the city with a family bike ride through the scenic trails in and around the city - Paths range from paved to gravel, flat to hilly and crowded to remote. Here’s how to get started!
Join the Club!
The best way to enjoy cycling in the city is to be a member of The Hyderabad Bicycling Club. They currently have 4600 members. The sole aim of the group is to promote cycling in the city - as an adventure sport, a leisurely sport and also as a means of commuting. They plan and organise many cycling rides for serious bicycling and also some fun leisurely family rides. They have found out and created many safe and clear biking trails for the cycling enthusiasts in the city. They also have bike stations at convenient locations in the city (Necklace Road and Gachibowli) that have 150 imported bikes, both geared and non geared variants and a few bikes for children that can be rented out at a nominal fee. On a good day, you will see around 200 people on the Necklace Road stretch, some who use their own bikes and others who rent from the station. On weekends, there is even a waiting list for bikes, so you and your child should carry your own bikes to take a spin. They plan rides every day of the week at various locations around the city.
Their first Bike Station was at Necklace Road and have made the initiative of making Necklace Road an exclusive cycling zone between 5 to 7 AM and inside Sanjeevaiah Park in the evening. HBC’s second Bike Station is at Gachibowli (Opp., Bio Diversity Complex) is also a big hit – it is fully enclosed and has rest rooms for and beverages counter. It has well landscaped parks on either side and a newly laid cemented approach roads.
The members gather in small groups and cycle in different areas of the city — Secunderabad, Gachibowli, Osmania University campus , ICFAI campus and the stretch around KBR Park to take part in fun rides, family rides and endurance rides. Another great organisation for bikers in the city is called The Bike Affair who also conduct rides for the whole family.
