Chai- Rendezvous, conversations, memories, relationships

The weather outside is gloomy... it is raining outside, the perfect weather for a perfect cup.... my mind says.... and my mil echoes my sentiments.... as the chai brews.... the newest member in our family; my grand- mil joins in saying she wouldn't mind a cup herself.

My mind instantly writes an ode to our dear Chai....over the years....

The humble CHAI... the first thing my sister taught me to make...rather the only other thing ;other than turning off the gas or refilling my plate; that made me enter our kitchen.

The CHAI with my bestie....

on the terrace during our adolescent years... pondering over things which seem so silly now.... but were big deals for us teeneagers....

The CHAI with my buddies in college....

.... At Anna's tapri...in between lectures, during lectures or otherwise, discussing everything under the sun, so lost in thinking about our bright futures after college... that our professors would come out there and in turn join us for a cutting.....

Ragging too had elements of Chai pilao seniors ko and bonding with juniors at the tapri... The CHAI with my roomies...

Any time of the day or night.... the only question being "Bartan kaun saaf karega" ....

The chai also was our constant companion with Parle-g it's humble sister... on kadki days and exam days when we would have to actually study and have no time for anything else.. The CHAI at the Workplace....

A must for one and all.... the chai wala being the most admired and missed human being especially if the hands of the clock were anywhere around 3pm. The chaiwala coming to office or the tapri downstairs... brought us some respite from the deadlines, the meetings, the chaos, the politics, the conspiracies....  Chai at workplace also meant the CHAI at offices of customers.... I remember; One of my bosses once telling us rookies.... if a customer offers you chai at a customer meeting.... never refuse... it means the customer is showing interest; And another boss attending meetings only for Chai, biscuit and pretty much only that... even it meant arriving fashionably late and just in time to have the chai....😂. The CHAI at Home ....

Bonding with my MiL and now grand MiI too.... cups of chai.... conversations.... recipes... gossip...advice ..#memories.

Being married to the best "Chaiwala" in the whole wide world... whose expression of love is a cuppa special chai.... and who by now knows that something is wrong, if there is a negative response or silence to the evergreen question "Chai piyogi?".

Even my kids know it.... Amma said No to chai... she must be angry with Appa 😂.

A small but important mention about my l'il Chai girl , all of 8 years, a chai lover like her parents...about conversations and bonding over her half and my full cup....

My three year old waiting in the wings.... proudly😂 declares that she too will drink chai when she grows up.... and is content with her glass of milk now....

Phew.... a long ode, hope my filter kaapi does not get to know of this.... coz she is as important... the morning lifeline to get through the chaos....

After all , when my husband was to come"meet" parents, the song went like this..."Mummy ne meri tumhe kaapi pe bulaya hai "

If Coffee is my Amma and chai is M y MIL , both, always cherished and needed....

Signing off.... my personal chai wala has poured my cuppa ...
