Recently I've read a news article about a reputed play school firm in Bangalore. A girl belonging to the school complained of pain in the private area, after she came from school. Doctors revealed that she was molested, and when questioned, the little girl told her parents of the person belonging to the school staff who has done this to her. Not once, not twice but many a time!
After the girl's parents spoke to the other parents, it came to notice that this happened to almost all the kids there (girls and boys!)
Childhood is the best part of anyone's life. Incidents like these in childhood have an effect for a lifetime. They just ruin that small kids hope on the society. And the sad part is, that devil could be anyone! , not only someone from out of the family but also anyone from the family. There comes the role of every parent to keep the child aware of such devils. It is our responsibility to educate the child and prevent such abuse at early stages.
When your child says, he/she is afraid or does not want to meet a particular family member or an acquaintance, then do not force them, instead try to think of why the child is not ready to go to someone belonging to our family.
It is high time that we start thinking of sex education at the right age. When your child reaches the appropriate age, it is very important for them to know about their body parts, the difference between a male and a female body and the reproduction process. This will help the child understand the difference between a good touch and a bad one.
Making your child feel comfortable while talking is very essential. If he/she is scared of the parent, then it is very difficult for them to open up. Keep talking to your child about their day at school and about their friends. Instead of being a strict parent, trying being their friend.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that, let us not get affected by the "log kya kahenge (What will the society think?)" concept. It is your child who is important to you. Kids, who get molested need moral support to move on. Do not treat them like they got impure, instead give them more love and make them feel special everyday. Give them a good reason to live their life to the fullest.
The devil is everywhere, waiting for it's prey. Let us try to keep our kids away from that devil and give them the best moments of their childhood!
