In today's world, we are surrounded by electronic gadgets from smartphones to i-pads to i-phones to tablets. The youngest of youngs know how to operate an electronic gadget. We are slowly moving away from using physical books. We as parents are slowly stopping to inculcate the habit of reading books.I still remember how my mom used to inculcate the habit of reading in me by buying magazines and books suiting my age whenever possible. Buying books regularly were out of budget. So I remember borrowing books from the school and college library to feed my passion. I also remember saving my pocket money to buy second hand books.
Such were the times where we were passionate to read but affordability was a question. Nowadays, all of us earning sufficient enough to buy one or two books for our children every month.
Reading is a skillset which every child should acquire. Reading books helps a child in honing his or her other skills like listening, understanding, comprehending and speaking.
As a parent, we can spend some quality time together with our kids and read a few pages for them. If they are big enough to read by themselves, still we can sit next to them in bed and ask them to read aloud. We can introduce different genres of books to kindle their interest.
It is in the hands of every parent to shape their child.
I recently read that Mr. Narayanamoorthy, founder of Infosys never bought TV at home but instead setup a big library for his kids. Though , it is not pissible in today's world, still we can put a strong foot ahead and sow good habits in our children and shape their personality.
