First things first - All 5 home remedies listed below have been tried and tested by me. Some of them have really worked for me and I hope they do work for you too. But like they say, nothing can be 100% guaranteed. Each body type is different and what suits my body may not necessarily suit yours. But these home remedies are simple measures that we have always heard from our elders. Hence, I believe there is no harm in giving them a try. But it's best to consult one's doctor in case one is prone to any allergy or reaction to the below mentioned things.
I am currently into my 6th month of pregnancy and acidity has been at its peak. Of course, I am trying to avoid eat unhealthy or spicy foods but i guess the symptom is natural. In my pursuit to find ways and means to curb down my acidity problem, I have zeroed upon top 5 home remedies or cures that have worked the best for me in reducing the acidity. Most of you might have already heard about these remedies and some of you may have even tried them. (Do share your feedback and let me know if they worked out well for you).
This one was actually discovered by my husband by doing his own little research on the internet. I guess he was fed up of my constant cribbing about suffering from acidity/heartburn after or before every meal (almost). Here's how it worked for me. Every time I feel my immune system going through a rollercoaster or each time I feel the heartburn/acidity bout, I pop in a piece of clove in my mouth. Its working takes time but I am not complaining. In fact, its aroma gives a refreshing feeling to my taste buds.
2. Cold Milk
Haven't we all heard about this one from our mothers and grandmothers? Yes, having cold milk if you're suffering from acidity or heartburn is considered as one of the most effective remedies. The alkaline properties of milk help in balancing out the stomach acid and its quite soothing too. If you haven't tried it out yet, you must. Even my gynaecologist had advised me to have cold milk during acidity.
3. Eat Saunf/Fennel Seeds
Fennel seeds are a great measure for pregnant women in curbing down indigestion, nausea and acidity too. This is one measure that has worked the best for me. I usually take fennel seeds with a bit of sugar. It's important to not over-do it. Hav eit in adequate amount only.
4. Drink More Water/Fluids
It's important that during pregnancy one is taking enough fluids. I have increased my intake of soups, fresh juices, water and smoothies. Needless to say, these move through the stomach quite quickly. Drink plenty of water too to reduce acidity. But avoid drinking water along with food.
Ginger or ginger candies are also effective in curbing down acidity or heartburn. It's safe to consume ginger in adequate amount or consult your doctor before taking it. I have been using ginger as a supplement in my tea and I only take it once a day and it has really helped me in reducing acidity. Do not take tea on an empty stomach as that can also lead to acidity.
Apart from these home foods, some of the other measures include going for walk after your meals, eating less but more often etc.
Do post in your feedback and let me know if I have missed out of anything. Also, if there is something that has worked for you in reducing acidity problem, do post it in the comments below. I would love to try them out. Thanks for reading! :)
