2. How to give-
Make mealtime calm and pleasant. Offer new food items with familiar food items. He may try few food items initially. Do not stuff your toddler with food all the time. His food requirements are not same as an adult. Do not expect him to eat each and everything you serve to him. Give him a spoon and let him experiment with food. Give food according to toddler size portion. For example, 1-2 tbsp vegetables in one meal is enough for them.

3. Where to give-
Make him sit with everybody on the dining table or high chair where he can see others eating and learn good food habits. Switch off television or any other electronic gadgets.

4. How much -
Try making a regular timings for meal and snack time everyday. A toddler should eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks in a day. Do not worry if he has not eaten properly in one meal, you can give him little more in the snack time. A toddler needs around 1000 calories a day and depending on how active he or she is it can go up to 1200-1400 too.

5.Do not panic-
Toddlers are easily distracted and they will focus on food only if they are hungry. Otherwise, they will focus on other stuff. One day, they will eat nicely and the other day they might not like the same food stuff. Toddlers appetite depends on lot of factors, like, growth, activity levels, tiredness etc.

6. Liquids-
Water requirements of a toddler is almost 5 cups a day. This includes even milk and juices consumed by your child. 2 cups (500ml) of milk is enough for a toddler. If he/she is having more milk than that, try to limit it as it might affect his appetite for other foods.

7. Avoid pressure-
Try not to put pressure on child for eating. If you force them to eat, they will never learn to enjoy food. On the other hand, do not give food as a pacifier or reward to your toddler.

8. Be firm-
Do not cook separately for your toddler. Let him know that this is the food everybody is eating and he is not going to get something different. Do not give into whining. He will think that whining works if you offer him different food items. Do not be a short term cook for him.

9. Be a role model-
Kids try to copy what adults do. Serve food at the table and focus on meal time by avoiding all the distractions. If you eat healthy food, your toddler will follow you.

10. Avoid-
Do not give food items like nuts with hard shells, chips, candies, gums etc. Try to give boiled vegetables and fruits cut into small pieces. Do not offer anything on a toothpick, try removing hard skin from vegetables like cucumber, cut fruits like grapes and cherries to avoid choking. Be creative with food. For example, you can make parathas or dosas into various fun shapes for them.

Remember, that eating habits cannot change overnight. It is just a phase. Be patient and do not panic. Otherwise, your child will associate meal time with anxiety and frustration. Take small steps towards healthy eating :)
