As said 'Behind every successful man there is a woman'. And we all know how successful Sachin is. Here behind the success of this humble gentleman, is not only a lady, indeed, a successful lady. And she is his love, his life partner, his wife Anjali Tendulkar .
Their marriage is a Love Marriage; Love that happened at first sight. Sachin was the renowned name in the field of sports and he had became the famous alltime favourite cricketer, by the time they met. Anjali was Anjali Mehta ,a Pediatrician doctor, daughter of an industrialist father and British origin mother.
Anjali and Sachin met each other at Mumbai international Airport in 1990 and fell in love at the very first moment they saw each other , following that love they finally found their way for Togetherness. They got married after 5 years of courtship, on 24 may 1995.
As Sachin was the well named person in the society all over world, his marriage became a great news to spread by the paparazzis . Not only that Sachin was getting married was the news but he was getting married to a lady who is 6 years older than him was the news that was also exciting the paparazzis more. And in the country like India where the groom's party has lots of specifications regarding the bride to be's color, height, weight and moreover age this one was a shock. Anjali and Sachin had jerked the minds of those conservative and narrow minded people's.
Anjali got well settled in her new home with Sachin and his family. Whenever Sachin goes on tour she takes cares of his family and belongings and gave him an assurance of ‘Main Hoon Na’(I am here). She gave birth to their first child ,a baby girl (Sara Tendulkar)on 12 Oct 1997 and then to a baby boy (Arjun Tendulkar)on 24 september 1999. After that Anjali made a vital decision of her life. She left her career of being a successful Pediatrician to live a happy married life with her husband. She maintains that it would have been difficult for her to maintain both at a time. She also says that she has no regrets whatsoever about leaving her profession as taking care of her husband and children gives her the greatest joy.
She was aware about the fact that it was even more difficult for Sachin to look after both fronts ,life and career, at the same time. So she helped him in relieving from the responsibilities of family front and supported him in concentrating more on his game. And because of that only Sachin became able to concentrate and won world cup for India and got the name from his fans 'Master Blaster’ and several other felicitations.
Anjali not only helped Sachin to groom up as a player but also helped their kids in achieving and attaining dreams of their lives. She played the roles of both a mother and a father to them. She gave their offsprings all the necessary training to be a good and humble human.
“I could not be married to Sachin and also have a full-time career. It wasn't possible because he depends on me for almost everything. It was my decision. With Sachin not around and me with two kids at home, it wouldn't have been possible. I took a decision and I have never, ever regretted it."
Besides she said
“I've not known any other person in my life except Sachin. I understand him so well. So whether I am his girlfriend or his wife, it's the same thing, just an extension of that bond."
Sachin has always recognised the sacrifices that Anjali has made for him and his career. He has always acknowledged her as his biggest support system. And, that is why he has always confided in her no matter how good or bad things went.
In his autobiography, Playing It My Way, Sachin even confessed that it was Anjali who helped him deal with and get through the debacles that he faced as the captain of the Indian cricket team. Sachin wrote,
"I confided in Anjali that I feared there was nothing more that I could do to stem the tide of defeats.Anjali, as usual, managed to put things in perspective and assured me that things would surely get better in the months to come.”Anjali actually taught me to thank for what the God has given me and for what the God has not given me.”
Anjali Tendulkar has proved that being a housewife is not confined to making food or cleaning utensils or taking care of household belongings and kids but, it's a more elaborated term. It's about helping in and building a foundation for a well established system and culture. She has given a slapped answer to those who think's housewives are futile creatures. She is the best example of a working woman who set her priorities to be a homemaker for her family. She has given a halt to the thoughts and debates like who is much better between a working woman and a homemaker. She has proved that a homemaker has a vital role to play in a family's well beings and development.
I hope, with examples like Anjali Tendulkar, we'll stop debating and stop letting each other down over the topic of who is better mom, wife or daughter in law, among working women and housewives.
