3 most effective remedies to cure cough and cold

My children are prone to catch cough and cold easily. I give them syrup prescribed by their pediatrician; along with syrup, I prefer home remedies. These home remedies have no side effect and they come with other health benefits. These home remedies are actually tasty, easy to prepare and very effective.

Soup (Kaadha)

Ingredients:

½ cup mint leaves

3-4 tulasi leaves

2-3 ajwain leaves (if you don’t have ajwain leaves, you can use 1 tsp ajwain seeds)

1 pinch turmeric

1 tbsp jaggery

1 tsp ginger

1 pinch black pepper

1 cup water

Method:

Boil all the ingredients for 5 – 7 minutes. Strain this through a metal strainer to remove the leaves and seeds. Drink this water. You can drink it twice a day to get fast relief from cough.

Health benefits:

This soup is full of nutrients. I love the smell and taste of this soup (kaadha). Children may not like the taste but it is the perfect remedy for cough and cold. You can give it in a small cup (which we get with any medicinal syrup bottle).

If your kids are not happy with the taste of this soup, you can prepare ajwain pakoda to cure cold.

Ajwain Pakoda

Ingredients:

10 to 15 Ajwain (celery) leaves

½ cup Besan

1 tsp Chilli Powder

1 pinch Turmeric Powder

¼ Baking Soda (cooking soda)

Salt to taste

Chat masala

Water to make the batter

Oil to fry

Method:

1.       Wash the leaves properly and wipe them.

2.       Make the pakoda batter (add chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, baking soda and water to besan) add little water to make the thick batter (which we normally prepare for any sort of pakoda)

3.       Heat oil in a kadai.

4.       Dip the leaf in the batter and slide it in the hot oil. Fry from both sides till golden brown.

5.       Drain extra oil on tissue paper.

6.       Sprinkle some chat masala on the pakoda.
