Women as men just want to live life with equal rights in respectful environment with safety and with freedom to make their own choices. The Indian Society is undergoing a phase lift which is undeniable although slow.No matter what profession a woman belongs to and how stellar her achievements are ,she is reduced to being judged by her looks and choices she makes in her life.Despite enormous progress in society's attitude towards women and their roles, many loopholes in all her rights are envisaged. In today's era when world finally is listening and paying heed to what women are saying, two instances in the recent times has shaken the nation
Firstly, the social media attack against Gurmehar Kaur who was in controversy over her stand supporting freedom of speech against RSS affiliated students body ABVP is condemnable. The troll of tweets forced her to withdraw from online campaign she had started #Students against ABVP.20 yr.old, daughter of Kargil war Martyr not only saw her receive rape threats but also was labelled "Antinational". BJP MP Pratap Simha compared Gurmehar to Dawood Ibrahim. However celebrities -a sports star,a Bollywood actor had their own share, this online argument turned into mockery, abuses and threats. In a country like this, shouldn't voices of women be encouraged and given more space? To what extent is it justified to blame a woman under whatsoever circumstances just for freedom of speech?
Another incident that pulls off veil over women's integrity is denying certification to Prakash Jha's film" Lipstick under my Burkha" by Central Board Film Certification (CBFC) is quite bizarre. The board says it's women oriented film ,focusing on women's "fantasies above life" A film that has won accolades across the world is being denied certification just because it portrays women's aspirations, her dreams and desires. It is weird that men talk about all these pleasures with pride and women play simply peripheral, subservient parts. They are seldom allowed to express themselves. Why women fantasies should have certain altitude?
A problem million of women face in this country is with the roots of patriarchy running deep within in family structures
