The Importance of Healthy water Intake during Pregnancy

 Water is essential to lead a healthy life and while you are pregnant, its importance doubles. Its importance, to the proper functioning of your body and its vital organs, can’t be ignored. During Pregnancy, all the more water is required to meet the demands of your changing body. It is a must to consume 12-13 glasses (8 ounce glasses) of water every day.

 Water is essential for healthy blood cells and to keep your body hydrated. Drinking enough water during this time prevents water dehydration. Adequate hydrated system is a well protecting guard against the potential risk of running into a premature labour. It eases many pregnancy symptoms. Some women find that drinking water regularly helps pregnancy blues like, morning sickness, acidity, heartburn and indigestion. It also helps in keeping your body cool, maintaining your temperature and glowing up of your skin (No wonder when people give the credit of your glowing face to the pregnancy, the reason behind the glow is Water actually! ;) :P )

Water is a key component of breast milk and is essential for good lactation too. It also helps prevent urinary infections (or UTIS) which are common during pregnancy. It also helps prevent constipation, haemorrhoids and oedema. It helps in flushing out the toxins from the body.

When drinking water is so essential during Pregnancy, will it not be important to be doubly sure that the water you drink is actually safe and Healthy? Isn’t it important to ensure your source is safe? Of course, Yes! But how will you ensure that?

 1.) Always drink clear and filtered water. If you do not have access to it, opt for bottled or boiled water. This will prevent you from the risks of waterborne diseases. Unfiltered water may carry a host of contaminants, bacteria and viruses.

2.) If you're going out, carry your own water, so that you can be sure of its purity. If you buy packaged water, make sure the bottle is sealed. Always check on the dates, i.e. 'date of packaging' and the 'best before' before buying. Never buy bottles that are damaged, leaking, discoloured, have broken seals or sediment at the bottom.

 3.) If you are eating out, always ask for branded, sealed, bottled water and have it opened at your table.

 4.) Keep having small amounts of water throughout the day. Every little bit of water helps ensure a healthy pregnancy.
